Spades is a cheating card game invented in the United States in the 1930s. It can be played as a partner game or solo / "cutthroat". The object is to obtain the number of tricks that were auctioned prior to the game's start. Spades are descendants of the Whist line of card games, including Bridge, Hearts, and Oh Hell. Its main difference from other Whist variants is that, instead of ace decided by the highest bidder or random, the Spade suit always prevails, hence the name.
